Udham Singh Nagar city is known as the “Gateway to Kumaon”. Earlier Udham Singh Nagar was a part of the Nainital district and it gained its separate identity as a district in October 1995. It is also known as the 'food bowl of Uttarakhand' and 'chawal ki nagari'. The city was named in the memory of Late Shri Udham Singh, who was a great freedom fighter and an Indian revolutionary. He killed General Dyer, who was responsible for the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre in Amritsar. It is third most populous district of Uttarakhand.

Gurudwara Nanakmatta Sahib is an important Sikh pilgrim center that lies on the Rudrapur-Tanakpur route. Gurdwara Sri Nanak Mata Sahib is associated with the first Guru of Sikh, Guru Nanak Dev ji who visited this place to meditate. Pilgrims visit here throughout the year in large numbers. The city also got popular with the construction of a huge Nanakmatta Dam which is built across the Saryu River.

Atariya Temple

Atariya temple is a famous shrine of Goddess Atariya and it is located at a distance of 2 km from Rudrapur bus stand. Devotees visit the shrine in large numbers. It is believed that lord Rama visited the temple while he was in exile to pray to lord Vishnu.

Giri Sarovar Lake

Giri Sarovar Lake is situated at a distance of 2 km from Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar. The lake is situated on the Kashipur- Ramnagar route. The beautiful lake and quiet surrounding make the place a perfect picnic spot.
